Tutorial Details

Join us for what is already shaping up to be one of the MOST exciting and useful IMN business tutorials we’ve ever hosted!

In a world where your photographs can quite literally make or break a sale, this workshop is designed to help you dramatically improve your product photography using something you already own… your smartphone.

Join Jet as she guides you through how to get the absolute best out of your phone camera, showing you:
• How to set up your camera properly
• How to work with light (without expensive equipment)
• How to use portrait mode effectively
• How to create professional-looking images that stand out online
• Quick but impactful editing techniques using Snapseed — one of the BEST free editing apps available (you may want to download this beforehand)

To make the session as relevant as possible for milliners, Jet will be demonstrating using a dummy head and hat throughout the tutorial.

This session is suitable for ANY make or model of smartphone and is perfect whether you are photographing hats for social media, websites, Etsy, press features or client commissions.

We strongly encourage you to watch on a laptop or tablet if possible, as you’ll be invited to join in and experiment with your own phone camera during the session.

Jet is the founder and Creative Director of Jet Black Squares. Combining her former teaching career in the East End of London with a hugely successful 13-year corporate photography business, she has built an internationally recognised creative hub dedicated entirely to smartphone photography.

Jet passionately believes photography should be accessible to everyone — not just those with expensive cameras or technical training.

Jet Black Squares now has 17 workshop leaders running sessions across the UK, Ireland, South West France and even New Zealand. Their non-profit sister company, JBS Workshops CIC, also delivers smartphone photography workshops for schools, social groups, Scouts and social prescribing initiatives.

This is one of those tutorials where the skills learned could genuinely transform how you present your work online.
